Former football coach and pedophile Barry Bennell has reportedly perished in prison, according to the Ministry of Justice.
The ex-Crewe Alexandra coach and Manchester City recruit, who reportedly had cancer, had been in HMP Littlehey, near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, where he was serving a 34-year sentence.
Five separate convictions for sexual offenses against boys landed him in prison: four in the United Kingdom and one in the United States.
Bennell was first imprisoned in Florida in 1994 for raping a British boy during a football tour in the United States. He was then sentenced to prison in the United Kingdom in 1998, 2015, 2018, and 2020.
A spokesperson for the Prison Service stated, “Prisoner Barry Bennell passed away at HMP Littlehey on September 16, 2023.” As with all inmate fatalities, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation.
