The child had “done nothing wrong and everything right” before being shot by the officer, according to the family’s attorney.
After nearly a week in the hospital, a police officer-shot 11-year-old was released.
Aderrien Murry was hospitalized for five days with a collapsed lung, lacerated liver, and fractured vertebrae after an officer shot him in the chest early on Saturday morning, according to his attorney Carlos Moore.
Aderrien left the hospital on Wednesday and is healing at home in Indianola, Mississippi, 95 miles northwest of Jackson.
Mr. Moore stated that the family is “demanding justice”
“An 11-year-old black boy in the city of Indianola came within an inch of losing his life. He had done nothing wrong and everything right.”
Aderrien’s mother, Nakala, begged Mr. Moore to call the police at 4:00 a.m. on Saturday after an ex-partner arrived.
According to Mr. Moore, Ms. Murry felt threatened, and the child “called the police to come to his mother’s rescue, he called his grandmother to come to his mother’s rescue, and the police arrived and escalated the situation.”
Two police officers arrived, and one kicked in the front door before Ms. Murry opened it and reported that the guy had fled. But her three children were still inside.
The child does not comprehend why he was slain by a police officer.
Mr. Moore stated that black Sergeant Greg Capers shouted for everyone inside to exit with their hands raised.
Mr. Moore stated that when Aderrien entered the living room empty-handed, Capers shot him in the torso.
The city attorney of Indianola, Kimberly Merchant, verified to the Enterprise-Tocsin newspaper that Capers was the officer who shot the child, and Mr. Moore stated on Thursday that Capers had been suspended with pay pending an investigation of the incident.
Ms. Murry said her kid is “blessed” to be alive but does not understand why a police officer wounded him.

She referred to the incident as “the worst moment of my life” and added, “I feel like nobody cares – that’s my child, y’all.”
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation will report its findings to the Attorney General’s Office.
