The attacks occurred hours after the remains of the three Army Reserve soldiers were returned to the United States, where they were accompanied by bereaved families and President Joe Biden, along with other senior defence leaders.
On Friday, the air campaign of the United States military targeted at least 85 locations in Iraq and Syria that were occupied by militias supported by Iran.
A multitude of aircraft, including long-range B-1 bombers dispatched from the United States, was utilised in what constituted the initial barrage of retaliation against the drone strike that killed three American forces in Jordan over the weekend.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted airstrikes against the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and affiliated militia groups in Iraq and Syria, according to a statement.
The United States military executed over 85 strikes, employing a variety of aircraft, including long-range bombers, from its soil.
In the bombardment, more than 125 precision munitions were utilised.
Unmanned aerial vehicle storage facilities, intelligence centres, command and control operations, missiles and rockets, and logistics and munitions supply chain establishments were all targets of the strikes.
President Joe Biden and other high-ranking American officials have issued dire warnings for days that the nation would retaliate against the militias, making it abundantly clear that this would be a “tiered response” over time and not a single blow.
“Our response commenced today,” Mr. Biden said in a statement in response to the assaults. “It will proceed at times and locations of our choosing.
Conflict is not on the agenda of the United States, either in the Middle East or elsewhere in the world. Conversely, those who may attempt to cause us harm should be aware that we will retaliate if you harm an American.
US Strikes Challenge Regional Stability
“Air strikes against the cities of Al-Qaim and the Iraqi border regions are being conducted by United States aircraft at a time when Iraq is attempting to ensure regional stability,” stated Yahya Rasool Abdullah, a spokesman for the Iraqi military.
The bombings in question represent an infringement upon Iraqi sovereignty, a subversion of the Iraqi government’s endeavours, and a peril that will precipitate unanticipated repercussions for the stability and security of the region and Iraq.

Mr. Biden and senior defense leaders joined bereaved relatives at a Friday ceremony at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware. This was as the remains of the three Army Reserve soldiers were returned to the United States.
The United States’ strikes, consisting of four in Syria and three in Iraq, did not explicitly target Iran or its Revolutionary Guard Quds Force.
Iran has denied responsibility for the assault on Jordan.
Iran will not initiate a war but will “respond strongly” to anyone who attempts to intimidate it. This was stated by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi prior to the retaliatory strikes.
