King Charles III’s illness was “diagnosed early,” and Rishi Sunak confirmed that regular communications are ongoing between the monarch and No. 10.
A “regular contact” exists between the Prime Minister and the monarch despite his “shocked and sad” reaction to the news.
The 75-year-old monarch has suspended all public engagements and commenced “routine medical interventions” for his ailment on Monday.
Although the Palace stated that he did not have prostate cancer, few additional details have been made public.
Mr Sunak stated, “He will forever remain in our thoughts and prayers; many families across the nation who are hearing this will have experienced the same thing, so they understand how much it means to each individual.”
It is anticipated that the King will maintain his weekly in-person audiences with Mr Sunak, unless medical professionals advise him otherwise.
Monarch’s Resilience Amid Cancer Treatment
The Palace has emphasised that the King will continue to conduct private meetings and complete paperwork in accordance with his constitutional duties as head of state.
The monarch “remains entirely positive” about his treatment and “looks forward” to returning to his normal schedule, according to the Palace on Monday.
The King returned to London for outpatient cancer treatment from his residence in Sandringham, where on the previous day he was observed waving to audiences while walking ten minutes to church.
While the King receives care, it is anticipated that the Prince of Wales, who was scheduled to resume public duties this week after the Princess of Wales underwent abdominal surgery last month, will cover a portion of his father’s engagements.
It has been reported that the King personally apprised both of his sons of his prognosis, and Prince William maintains consistent communication with his father.
The United States-based Duke of Sussex has communicated with his father and is en route to the United Kingdom to pay him a visit. Reports indicate that his arrival could occur as early as Tuesday afternoon.
There has been no indication from the Palace as to when the King will resume his public responsibilities.
The future course of official visits to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Samoa, which were all planned for later this year, remains uncertain.
A procedure performed at a private London hospital over a week ago to treat a “benign” prostate condition resulted in the King’s cancer diagnosis.
The Palace announced on Monday that “during that treatment, a separate matter of concern was identified and subsequently diagnosed as a form of cancer.”
According to the Palace, the King elected to disclose his cancer treatment publicly, despite having previously supported several cancer-related charities during his time as Prince of Wales.
King’s Candidness on Cancer Battle
The King was honoured by the Royal Society of Medicine for emphasising “the indiscriminate nature of cancer” and urged eligible members of the public to schedule an appointment for cancer screenings.
Former press secretary to Queen Elizabeth II from 1997 to 1999, Simon Lewis, lauded the monarch’s candour, adding, “Twenty years ago, a brief, extremely abrupt statement would have sufficed.”
