Harper, age 2, was rescued from her potty by firefighters after she attempted to wear it.
A disastrous evening of potty training occurred when a child got her head stuck in the toilet seat.
Kay Stewart, age 37, attempted to toilet train her two-year-old daughter Harper at their Wallsend, North Tyneside, residence.
However, the child attempted to wear the seat around her neck and became stuck, sobbing, “Mama, I’m stuck!”
Ms. Stewart was unable to remove the seat and, in desperation, requested her 16-year-old daughter Shannon to contact the fire department.
The Wallsend Community Fire Station team was dispatched by the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service and arrived within minutes.
They utilized little tools to remove the toilet, while the blue lights on their fire engine amused Harper’s brothers.
Ms. Stewart said: “They were extremely calming and kept the other children occupied while Harper was assisted.
“After finishing, Harper gave the firefighter a great embrace.
“Before leaving, they even turned on their headlights and offered a large wave.
“I was extremely appreciative of their assistance that evening.
Trevor Sturrock, manager of the station, was “very happy” that his crew was able to assist the family, and he wished Harper the best of luck with her future potty training.
“She had to remain extremely still, which can be quite terrifying for a person of her size.
“Harper’s bravery assisted the firefighters in completing the rescue.
“I’d want to congratulate the crew for their professionalism during this event; sometimes when you arrive, people are quite worried, and it’s important to remain cool and reassure them.”
