A man was killed and three others were injured in a series of shootings on the island of Skye.
Local authorities have identified the deceased as John MacKinnon.
Shortly before 9:00 a.m., Police Scotland received a report of a 32-year-old lady being hurt in a Tarskavaig, Skye, residence.
At approximately 09:30, officers were dispatched to an incident in Teangue, located approximately 13 kilometers distant.
A gun was fired, according to police, and a 47-year-old male died at the site.
Later, officers were dispatched to Dornie, near Kyle of Lochalsh on the mainland of Scotland, where a cannon was again fired.
A severely injured man was transported to a hospital in Inverness, while a woman was transported to a hospital on Skye. Locally, they are known as John Don Mackenzie and Fay Mackenzie.
Police stated that the incidents were related and that a 39-year-old man was arrested. He was also sent to the hospital.
The rescue mission involved many ambulances, air ambulances, and special quick retrieval emergency teams, who are only dispatched to remote incidents when people are in dire need of medical care.
Ch Supt Conrad Trickett said: “Thankfully, incidents of this nature are extremely rare, but I understand that this will have a considerable impact on the rural communities affected.
“I would like to reassure the public that these occurrences are controlled and pose no harm to the public at large.
In the next few days, there will be a substantial police presence in the area, and we will work with our partners to assist the local community.
Multiple ambulances, air ambulances, a special operations response team and an emergency medical retrieval service team were dispatched to the location, according to the Scottish Ambulance Service.
Ian Blackford, the SNP representative for Ross, Skye, and Lochaber, told that the news was extremely troubling and that he was thinking of all those impacted.
He said: “As additional details surface, it appears that the responsiveness of the emergency services prevented this incident from extending even further.
“We appreciate the work that you do.”
Kate Forbes, a local Member of Parliament, praised the work of the emergency services.
Skye councilman John Finlayson described the day as “very difficult” for islanders.
Mr. Finlayson stated on Good Morning Scotland on BBC: “I’ve never experienced a tragedy like this, which has devastated two communities – one on Skye and one on the mainland.
Therefore, this is a sad day, a tragic day, and a very difficult day for us all.
