Sunday’s fire claimed the lives of Naeemah Drammeh, one, and her three-year-old sister Fatimah. Fatoumatta Hydara, their 28-year-old mother, was placed on a life support machine following the fire, but died Tuesday morning, according to authorities.
Two children killed in a Nottinghamshire apartment fire have been identified by the police, who report that their mother also perished.
Naeemah Drammeh, one, and Fatimah Drammeh, three, were rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre together with their mother after the fire in Fairisle Close, Clifton, early on Sunday morning.
The hospital pronounced the sisters deceased.
Tuesday morning, Nottinghamshire Police said that Fatoumatta Hydara, age 28, who had been placed on a life support system, had passed away.
Becky Johnson, Sky’s Midlands correspondent, reported from the scene of the fire that the children’s father was in the United States at the time of the blaze.
She stated, “He was truly here yesterday.” “Upon hearing this terrible news, he boarded an aircraft as soon as possible to return home.
“He was shell-shocked when he arrived and was on his way to the hospital to be at his wife’s bedside – he must now not only mourn the loss of his two small children, but also his wife.”
Following a joint fire and police investigation, a triple murder investigation has been initiated.
On Sunday night, a 31-year-old male from Clifton was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
His interrogation by detectives has been extended, and he remains in detention.
The investigation’s leader, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski, stated: “The murder of two small children and their mother is one of the most heinous crimes we have encountered.
“This is a tragic event, and I can only understand the family’s suffering. They include the woman’s husband and the children’s father, who were not in the United Kingdom at the time of the fire.”
He continued, “A huge team of police has been investigating the facts surrounding this unfortunate tragedy day and night.”
The fire, which began at approximately 3:17 am, was doused at approximately 4 am.
During the incident, neighboring residences were briefly evacuated.
