Michelle Hodgkinson, a 51-year-old woman who was fatally stabbed in Droylsden, Manchester, on Friday, has been identified by police.
A 28-year-old man has been detained for murder suspicion. The police have verified the man’s detention under the Mental Health Act.
In remembrance of Ms. Hodgkinson, her family stated, “Everyone who knew Michelle is in complete disbelief over the attack she endured and how horrifying her final moments were.
“Shelly B was the most remarkable, loving, altruistic, and hilarious daughter, mother, mother-in-law, sister, auntie, and, most recently, grandmother. It was an honor to have known and been adored by her.
“She loved helping people in her community and was well-known for her volunteer work as an adult, her charity work, and her passion for putting together gift baskets to make people smile.
She would be there for anyone, and on the day she was stolen from us, she was walking to meet her mother so she could take her shopping and grab a cup of coffee.
“Our loved ones and acquaintances are devastated. Our universe has collapsed in a single instant and will never be the same. We will support each other, and we thank and appreciate our family and friends for their affection and support.
Please embrace your loved ones, express your affection for them, and create memories.
“No amount of words can express how much she will be missed. She will never be forgotten as our greatest advocate, confidante, and pillar. We adore you to infinity and beyond! We will do everything possible to obtain justice. Love you always and eternally!”
Greater Manchester Police officers were dispatched to Edge Lane, Droylsden, around noon on Friday after receiving reports of a stabbing and confirmed that Ms. Hodgkinson was pronounced dead at the scene. Her assailant escaped the scene but was apprehended Friday evening.
Chief Superintendent Phil Davies, District Commander for Tameside, stated on Saturday, “Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family and friends, as well as the community that has been profoundly affected by this incident.”
I know the incident will worry Tameside and Greater Manchester residents.
Anyone with concerns should talk to the area’s increased police force in the following days.
