In Liverpool, a nine-year-old girl was tragically shot in the chest.
Merseyside Police has opened an investigation after police were dispatched to a home in Knotty Ash’s Kingsheath Avenue at 10 p.m. on Monday in response to accusations that an unidentified individual had shot a gun inside, according to a statement from the force.
The nine-year-old girl had a chest gunshot wound and was rushed to the hospital in serious condition, where she subsequently died.
During the confrontation inside the residence, a male sustained gunshot wounds to his body and a lady sustained a gunshot wound to her hand, according to the police.
Both were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Jenny Sims, the assistant chief constable, stated: “This is a genuinely heartbreaking event in which a young, innocent girl was tragically shot and killed.
“Our condolences and thoughts are with her family and friends during this difficult time. No parent should ever have to endure the tragic loss of a child under these conditions.
“This offense is terrible, and our communities must come forward and identify the perpetrators.
“This cowardly criminal does not belong on the streets, and I urge anyone with information to come forward so we can put the perpetrator behind bars, where they belong.
“We are conducting several urgent investigations and are requesting dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone evidence from anyone who lives, works, or was in the Kingsheath Avenue area last night.”
