A woman was detained on suspicion of attempting to murder three young children in a Huddersfield residence.
Police reported that a three-month-old infant boy, a two-year-old boy, and a four-year-old girl were discovered with severe stab wounds at the Walpole Road residence.
The girl and the infant are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while the boy’s condition is characterized as “severe but stable.”
A 34-year-old lady was discovered injured and is being held in custody at a hospital.
West Yorkshire Police stated that no more suspects were being sought in connection with the inquiry.
Det Ch Insp Sam Freeman said: “This morning, three young children sustained significant injuries as a consequence of an incident that is still the subject of intensive investigation.
“Officers continue to assist the family during what is a terrible moment for them.
“I would like to remind the community that this case includes very young children, and I urge that their privacy be respected and that the public refrain from harmful conjecture that can only compound the family’s anguish.”
Monday, 08:00 GMT, officers were dispatched to the residence.
Vincent Jones, an 86-year-old resident of the street for more than four decades, reported being awoken by the sound of ambulances.
“I observed an ambulance outside, which was transporting a woman. She was covered with blankets. There were numerous ambulances and police cars present “he stated.
Mr. Jones stated that he was unfamiliar with the family.
“I observed them, but we did not engage in discussion. They would simply say hi and leave “he said.
“I saw her running about with two children, and she recently had a third child around Christmastime.”
At approximately 15:00, the investigators departed the home, but one officer stayed at the residence’s entrance.
The West Yorkshire Police stated that “reassurance patrols” would be conducted in the region.
