The Glasgow police have opened a murder investigation as they search for the companion of a pregnant teacher whose body was discovered there.

Marelle Sturrock: Police search for partner of pregnant teacher found dead in Glasgow; detectives say unborn baby died.

I can affirm, said Detective Superintendent Nicola Kilbane, that her unborn child did not survive.

DS Kilbane added, “Her partner, David Yates, is sought in connection with the death of Marelle. We have no information to imply that anyone else was involved at this time.”

Tuesday, Yates’ white Seat Ateca was discovered nine miles distant in Mugdock Country Park, prompting a massive police search.

Divers from the police have been observed in the park in East Dunbartonshire, and portions of the reservoir have been cordoned off with officers on guard.

DS Kilbane stated, “The last confirmed sighting of David occurred on Sunday night around 8 o’clock.”

“His movements after leaving his vehicle at Mugdock Country Park are unknown, but there is no indication he has departed the area.

We will maintain an open mind as we continue to search the area.

As the investigation continues, a visible police presence will remain at both Jura Street and Mugdock Country Park.

It is believed that there is no danger to the general public.

However, anyone with information or concerns is implored to call 101 and speak with Police Scotland.

DS Kilbane added, “Our sympathies are with Marelle’s family and friends, as well as all those impacted by this tragedy. We are providing specialized assistance to her family during this incredibly challenging time.”

Ms. Sturrock’s parents and guardians at Sandwood Primary School received a letter on Wednesday telling them of her death.

Later, headmistress Fiona Donnelly paid her respects, remarking, “She was a lovely, kind, diligent, and considerate person who loved and made time for everyone.”

Ms. Sturrock was originally from the Scottish Highlands. But she relocated to Glasgow at age 17 to pursue a career in the performing arts.

She subsequently became a primary school teacher after completing her postgraduate education diploma.

“We are in mourning as a school community and devastated by her tragic death, Ms. Donnelly said. We extend our deepest condolences to her family and friends as we all come to terms with our loss.”
