After more than three decades on the run, Greg Lawson, convicted of attempted murder, has been apprehended in Mexico, laughing as he was handcuffed by police officers. Lawson had been a fugitive since 1991, but a recent tip led to his arrest. Greg Lawson, aged 63, laughed and greeted officers with “how are you doing?” as they arrested him in Huatulco, Mexico, putting an end to his 32-year evasion of justice. He fled after being convicted of shooting Seth Garlington in Louisiana in 1991, sparking an FBI manhunt.

Lawson smiles, slaps someone on the shoulder, and wears casual clothes as cops walk him in a social media video. He was finally handcuffed and taken into custody.

Fugitive Evading Capture for 32 Years Finally Apprehended

Douglas Williams Jr, the agent in charge of FBI New Orleans, expressed gratitude for the Mexican authorities’ assistance in capturing Lawson, stating that justice for Mr. Garlington’s victim would not have been possible without their swift cooperation.

The FBI had long assumed Lawson was in Mexico, and a tip last month gave them the breakthrough. On September 19, he was arrested and extradited to Louisiana, ending his decades-long evasion of justice.

According to local reports, Lawson was involved in a physical altercation with Seth Garlington in a petrol station parking lot, forcing Garlington’s vehicle off the highway and firing shots. However, before the jury could deliver the guilty verdict, Lawson had already fled.

The FBI had offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture.
