When the collision occurred in west London, the duchess, who is married to Prince Edward, was accompanied by motorbike outriders.
Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, expressed her “thoughts and prayers” for an 80-year-old woman who was critically injured after being struck by a police motorbike escorting the monarch.
Buckingham Palace issued the following statement: “The Duchess’s deepest sympathies and prayers are with the injured lady and her family.
“She is appreciative of the prompt response of the emergency services and will remain abreast of any new information.
“Further comment at this time would not be appropriate while the incident is being investigated.”
Wednesday at approximately 3.21 p.m., the duchess, who is married to Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, was being escorted by motorbike outriders when the collision occurred.
It occurred in west London at the intersection of Cromwell Road and Warwick Road.
The Metropolitan Police stated that the implicated motorbike was performing escorting duties.
The woman was also taken to the hospital after the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance responded to the site.
“Her condition there remains critical. Her family has been notified,” the Metropolitan Police Department said in a Thursday morning statement.
There have been no reports of additional injuries.
The Independent Office of Police Conduct is investigating the incident, the force added.
