Saturday morning, a group of persons allegedly caused a “disturbance” at an immigration deportation site in west London, according to the Home Office.
The incident at the Harmondsworth detention center near Heathrow Airport resulted in no injuries, although the power was still out just before 9 a.m. on Saturday, according to the department.
The Home Office initially said that a “group of detainees exited their dormitories” and entered a courtyard area “equipped with a variety of weapons,” but later retracted this statement.
Police, fire, and prison services have responded to the location.
A Home Office representative added: “There has been a power outage at the Harmondsworth immigration removal center, and efforts are being made to rectify the situation.
“We are aware of a disturbance at the center, and the relevant authorities have been alerted and are en route.
The safety and well-being of personnel and detainees at Harmondsworth are our priority.
