A guy who arrived at Windsor Castle with a crossbow and informed a protection officer, “I’m come to assassinate the Queen,” pled guilty to treason charges.
Hampshire native Jaswant Singh Chail was apprehended on Christmas Day, 2021, when the late monarch was residing at Windsor owing to the Covid epidemic.
Earlier in the Old Bailey, Chail, age 21, pled guilty to three offenses.
He is the first British citizen to be found guilty of treason since 1981.
Chail, from North Baddesley near Southampton, also admitted to making death threats and having a loaded weapon in the castle. On March 31, he will be sentenced in the same court.
On 25 December 2021, shortly after 08:10 GMT, a royal protection officer noticed him in a secret area of the castle grounds.
The officer was stationed at the entrance to the monarch’s private quarters.
Chail had entered the grounds using a nylon rope ladder and had been there for around one hour.
He wore a hood and a mask and was described as “something from a vigilante film.”
The cop drew his Taser and offered, “Good morning, can I assist you, mate?” Chail responded, “I’m here to murder the Queen.”
The protection officer instructed Chail to instantly down the crossbow, kneel, and place his hands on his head. Chail complied and said, “I am here to murder the Queen.”
It was discovered that the crossbow was loaded with a bolt and the safety catch was not engaged.
Chail was also carrying a note that stated, “Please do not take my clothes, shoes, gloves, masks, etc., don’t want a post-mortem, don’t want to be embalmed, thank you, and I’m sorry.”
“I apologise for everything I have done and will do,” Chail said on Snapchat minutes before entering the castle. I shall attempt to murder Elizabeth, the Royal Family’s queen.
“This is retribution for the victims of the Jallianwala Bagh atrocity of 1919. It is also a retribution for those who have been murdered, humiliated, and discriminated against based on their race.”
The Jallianwala Bagh massacre occurred when British troops opened fire on tens of thousands of individuals gathering in the Indian city of Amritsar.
The death toll is debatable, although hundreds of people were slain, according to Indian reports.
Queen crossbow threat man acknowledges treason
Chail also stated, presumably about the Star Wars films, in the video: “I’m an Indian Sikh, a Sith. Formerly known as Jaswant Singh Chail, I am now known as Darth Jones.”
Commander Richard Smith, who runs the counter-terrorism unit of the Metropolitan Police, stated: “This was a very serious event, but the officers who apprehended Chail handled it with poise and competence.
They bravely arrested a masked man with a loaded crossbow without harming anyone.
Chail is currently hospitalized at Broadmoor, where he appeared in court by video link.
