The extradition of controversial influencer Andrew Tate, which the United Kingdom requested, was granted by a Romanian court. However, the court stated that the extradition would be delayed until the conclusion of Tate’s criminal trial in Romania.
Additionally, the court declared on Tuesday that Tate and his brother Tristan should be immediately released from police custody. Twenty-four hours had passed since the Tates were detained, pending a decision on the arrest warrant issued by the United Kingdom.
“Rules to execute the arrest warrant and… to delay handing over the requested individual until the final verdict in the criminal case argued in the Bucharest court,” the court of appeals said in a statement.
On Monday evening, Tate and his brother Tristan were taken into custody on suspicion of engaging in sexual aggression between 2012 and 2015. The Westminster Magistrates Court in London issued the warrant. Historiography stated that the brothers “categorically” refute the allegations levied against them.
Tate, upon his release from police custody, stated, “We are very innocent men, and gradually everyone will realize that. We are extremely eager to conclude this judicial process and have our names cleared.”
The British police informed Reuters that they were collaborating with Romanian authorities on an ongoing investigation into allegations of human trafficking and rape. The Tates were a subject of the investigation, the police added.
“We appreciate the Bucharest Court of Appeal’s decision to postpone the extradition of Andrew and Tristan Tate,” said the defendants’ legal counsel, Eugen Vidineac, in a statement.
“This decision affords the brothers the chance to engage in their defense actively and ensures that the legal proceedings continue in a manner that is entirely open and honest.”
Extremely masculine way of existence
Tate, who amassed millions of followers by endorsing a “toxic” ultra-masculine lifestyle as described by critics, was indicted in June in Romania on charges of human trafficking, rape, and conspiring with two Romanian women to establish a criminal organization that exploited women sexually. His brother also accompanied Tate. They refuted the allegations.
Since then, the matter has been pending before the preliminary chamber of the Bucharest court, which must determine whether the trial can commence. A decision is still pending due to the accumulation of cases in the Romanian courts.
From late December 2022 until April of the previous year, the Tate brothers were detained by the police while the criminal investigation was ongoing to prevent them from evading capture or tampering with evidence.
They were subjected to house detention until August, after which they have been under judicial control, which is a less stringent preventive measure permitting unrestricted movement on the condition that they make regular police check-ins. They are prohibited from departing the nation.
The term “Andrew Tate” ranked among the most searched terms on Google in 2022. Many adults, however, became aware of his existence only in 2023.

Tate turned into one of the most renowned influencers in the world due to his videos, which featured misogynistic and occasionally violent maxims accompanied by success advice.
