Foreign Secretary Liz Truss will inform the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Switzerland that the United Kingdom will support Ukraine for the “long haul” and will resist the invasion by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss will pledge that the United Kingdom will “do everything possible” to ensure Ukraine wins and recovers from the war.
She will announce today at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Switzerland that the United Kingdom will support the beleaguered nation for the “long haul” and resist the invasion by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to the Foreign Office, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has requested that the United Kingdom champion the recovery of Kiev and its environs.
However, efforts to rebuild the area are complicated by Russia’s ability to strike the capital with missiles as Kremlin forces advance eastward.
Ms. Truss will use the conference in Lugano to outline a vision for providing Ukraine with both immediate and long-term support.
Other advancements:
Mr. Zelenskyy acknowledged in his evening address that Ukrainian forces had withdrawn from the key city of Lysychansk in the Donbas but vowed that they would retake it.
According to the Association of Cities of Ukraine, eight Ukrainian city and village leaders are being held captive in Russia.
At Novomykhailivka, Bohorodychne, and Ivanivka, Ukrainian forces have repelled Russian advances.
In the Odesa region, a Russian mine exploded, killing one civilian and injuring another.
“Ukraine’s recovery from Russia’s aggressive war will represent the superiority of democracy over autocracy. It will demonstrate to Putin that his efforts to destroy Ukraine have only made the country stronger, more prosperous, and more united, she is expected to say.
“The United Kingdom is steadfast in its support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, and it will remain by Ukraine’s side as it emerges as a robust, thriving, and cutting-edge democracy.
“We will continue to take the lead in supporting the Ukrainian government’s reconstruction and development plan, just as we did during the war.”
Ms. Truss will announce plans to host next year’s recovery conference as the government commits to a program modeled after the Marshall Plan, which was used to rebuild Europe after World War II.
The United Kingdom will make every effort to ensure Ukraine wins the war and recovers. We must be committed for the long haul,” she is anticipated to say.
Moscow is concentrating its offensive efforts on the eastern regions of Luhansk and Donetsk after President Putin withdrew his troops from the offensive in Kiev due to stiff opposition.
On Sunday, President Zelenskyy acknowledged that Ukrainian forces had retreated from Lysychansk in response to a grueling Russian offensive, but he vowed to regain control of the region with the assistance of long-range Western weapons.
Russia declared that its capture of Lysychansk, less than a week after capturing neighboring Severodonetsk, gave it complete control over the eastern Luhansk region.
Last week, Russia launched missile attacks against Kiev in what Ukraine described as an attempt to intimidate the city’s residents, who are attempting to return to normalcy while under siege.
