Syria’s foreign ministry has criticized a suspected Israeli air strike on an apartment building in Damascus, which it claims killed seven civilians.
According to the ministry, women and children were among those killed in Tuesday evening’s attack on the Mezzeh area, which includes the Iranian embassy and other diplomatic buildings. The Israeli military has not commented.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported 13 deaths, including nine civilians and two members of the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, a crucial supporter of Iran and Syria’s government.
According to the UK-based monitoring group, the strike targeted an apartment frequented by Iranian “Axis of Resistance” leaders.
According to Syria’s national news agency, Sana, a military source stated that the structure was hit by three missiles launched by Israeli aircraft from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights.
Emergency officials were photographed evaluating considerable damage to units on the first, second, and third floors.
I was on my way home when the explosion happened, and communications and electricity were cut off, so I could no longer contact my family,” electrician Adel Habib, 61, who lives in the building, told AFP news agency.
“These were the longest five minutes of my life until I heard the voices of my wife, children and grandchildren.”
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the people killed included a Yemeni doctor, his wife, and their three children, as well as a mother and her child, a female doctor, and a man.
According to the Iranian embassy, no Iranian citizens were among the casualties.
According to Sana, an Israeli strike in the southwestern city of Quneitra I killed one member of Syria’s security forces on Wednesday.
Last Monday, another Israeli strike in Mezzeh reportedly killed Hassan Jaafar Qassir, the late Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s son-in-law.
Israel has previously admitted to carrying out hundreds of strikes in recent years against Syrian locations it claims are related to Iran and other military groups such as Hezbollah.

Israeli strikes in Syria have reportedly increased since the start of the Gaza conflict in October in response to cross-border attacks on northern Israel by Hezbollah and other groups from Lebanon and Syria.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Israel has launched 104 air and artillery strikes on Syrian territory since January, killing at least 296 people and damaging or destroying approximately 190 targets, including weapons depots, vehicles, and Iran-backed militia headquarters.
Over the last three weeks, Israel has also launched a strong and broad air assault against Hezbollah in Lebanon, attacking the group’s infrastructure and weaponry and occupying the country’s south.
