Sunday afternoon, two individuals targeted a home in the city of Gqeberha, and authorities have vowed that they “will not rest” until those guilty are apprehended. It follows a sequence of mass shootings across the nation in the previous year.
Two individuals opened fire on a birthday party in South Africa, resulting in the deaths of eight people.
Police were searching for the Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, house invaders.
Sunday between 5.15 p.m. and 5.30 p.m., three more people were hurt during the shootings.
According to police, no arrests were made.
The identities of the victims have not been disclosed, although authorities said the home’s owner was among the deceased.
The Eastern Cape police commissioner, Nomthetheleli Lillian Mene, stated, “These individuals were murdered by criminals, and we will not rest until we determine what transpired and who was responsible for [this] brutal and cold-blooded attack on these innocent victims.”
The most recent event follows a wave of mass shootings throughout the nation in the past year.
In July, 19 people were randomly shot and killed within hours of each other.
With approximately 20,000 murders per year in a 60-million-person country, South Africa has one of the highest murder rates.
Gun Free South Africa estimates that approximately three million firearms are registered in the country. Many more firearms are reportedly unregistered.
Police minister Bheki Cele and the national commissioner of the South Africa Police Service Fannie Masemola visited the location of the most recent incident on Monday.
