Doughty: Three soldiers have been injured, and at least twenty-three have been slain in Pakistan since militants stormed a police compound.

Early in the morning, a vehicle carrying explosives crashed into a structure in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, close to the border with Afghanistan.

Tutimist militants affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban have claimed accountability for the attack that occurred on Tuesday.

The Pakistani army was utilising the compound as a base camp.

Failed Attempt and Compound Utilization

Several militants attempted to access the compound in the Dera Ismail Khan district before the vehicle collided with it but were unsuccessful, according to an army statement.

The statement continued, “The group then drove a truck loaded with explosives into the compound’s perimeter wall, which was followed by a suicide bombing that brought the structure to its knees.”

There are concerns that the ammunition stored within the Dera Ismail Khan district compound may have detonated as well. According to an official, numerous individuals were murdered while they slept.

Six attackers were slain, according to the military. An additional 27 militants were killed overnight as a result of military operations in the region, the statement continued.

The assault was condemned by caretaker Pakistani Prime Minister Anwaar ul-Haq Kakar and caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti.

The Tahreek-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP), an organisation that surfaced earlier this year, claimed responsibility for the attack on Tuesday.

Escalation of Militant Attacks in Pakistan

There has been an increase in militant group attacks in Pakistan, specifically in the border regions with Afghanistan, since Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an extremist Islamist militant organisation, terminated its ceasefire a year ago.

Experts say the TTP has been emboldened by the Afghan Taliban’s 2021 rise to power.

According to Islamabad, insurgents operate from regions spanning the frontier. Multiple times, the Taliban in Afghanistan have denied this.

For years, the TTP, or Pakistan Taliban organisation, has engaged in combat with the police and armed forces of the country. Although distinct from the Afghan Taliban, this group espouses the same extremist ideology.

The organisation intends to enforce its interpretation of Sharia law in northwest Pakistan.

One hundred or more individuals perished in January when a device detonated within a mosque located in the city of Peshawar. Initially, the TTP denied responsibility for the attack and placed the onus on a commander of a dissident faction.
