Jerry Hall has filed for divorce from media mogul Rupert Murdoch in California, United States.
Six years after their marriage, the petition cited “irreconcilable differences” between the parties.
The model and actress petitioned for spousal support, stating that this may change once Mr. Murdoch’s net worth is determined.
It will be Mr. Murdoch’s fourth divorce at age 91. Ms. Hall, 66, was formerly the long-term partner of Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger.
According to US media reports, family members were shocked by the divorce.
Mr. Murdoch, whose News Corporation empire controls major outlets such as Fox News and the Wall Street Journal in the United States, as well as The Sun and The Times in the United Kingdom, was rumored to be devoting more time to his new wife.
The billionaire announced on Twitter at the time of his wedding that he was “the luckiest AND happiest man in the world” and that he would stop posting on the platform.
In 2018, his eldest son Lachlan was appointed as his successor as CEO of Fox Corporation. Additionally, Mr. Murdoch sold the majority of 21st Century Fox to the Walt Disney Company.
Additionally, the couple had been spotted together in public on multiple occasions.
According to the New York Times, Ms. Hall was observed “doting on” her partner at his 90th birthday party last year.
She was previously in a long-term relationship with Mr. Jagger, with whom she had four children. In 1990, the couple tied the knot in a Hindu ceremony in Bali, Indonesia. Less than a decade later, the marriage was annulled by the High Court of Justice in London, which ruled that the union had never been legal under British or Indonesian law.
Mr. Murdoch was previously married to flight attendant Patricia Booker from 1956 to 1967, journalist Anna Mann from 1967 to 1999, and entrepreneur Wendi Deng from 1999 to 2014.
The couple has a total of 10 children from their marriages.
