- Israeli airstrikes hit military sites in Syria
- 14 killed, 43 injured, including civilians
- Attack linked to Iran-Israel regional tensions
Israeli missiles have killed at least 14 individuals in central Syria, according to state media reports.
According to SANA, Syria’s official news agency, the attack on Sunday night caused a fire and material damage near the city of Masyaf in Hama province. The update, which reportedly reported 43 injured, adds to the previous reports of five dead and 19 wounded.
Around 11:20 p.m. on Sunday, the Israeli enemy started an air attack from northwestern Lebanon, targeting several military sites in Syria’s central region, a military source told SANA.
“Our air defence systems confronted the aggression’s missiles and shot down some of them,” the source stated, without providing any other information.
The Israeli military often does not comment on its operations in Syria.
According to two regional intelligence sources, a significant military research center for chemical arms manufacture near Masyaf has been bombed many times, Reuters reports. The news agency also reported that a team of Iranian military professionals specializing in weapons manufacture was working at the facility.
According to a local health official quoted by SANA, the hits injured 43 individuals, including some gravely.
According to the head of the public hospital in Masyaf, the casualties were civilians.
‘Harsh punishment’
Israeli jets have frequently launched assaults on Syria from Lebanon, most likely in an attempt to avoid Syrian airspace, where several regional and international troops, including those of Russia and the United States, are deployed.
Throughout Syria’s 13-year civil war, Israel has conducted regular air assaults, primarily targeting Iran-linked locations.
Sunday’s incident comes amid rising regional tensions, with Iranian officials vowing to respond to the July death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Iran, which has a military presence in Syria, vowed Israel “harsh punishment” for the killing, but no Iranian attack has occurred more than 40 days later.
Last week, Mohsen Chizari, a top Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander, stated that Iran’s answer will come “in due time.”
In April, Iran launched a frontal attack on Israel using hundreds of drones and missiles in reaction to Israel’s bombardment of an Iranian diplomatic facility in Damascus.

The majority of the projectiles were shot down by Israeli and US air defences in the region, reducing the attack’s damage.
Separately, Hezbollah launched its strike on Israel on August 25 in response to the assassination of one of its top commanders in an Israeli air raid in Beirut that also killed numerous civilians.
Israel said it disrupted the plan with a preemptive strike, but the Iran-aligned Lebanese militia claimed it successfully attacked an Israeli military intelligence post near Tel Aviv.
Cross-border clashes between Hezbollah and Israel have persisted almost daily. Hezbollah claims it is targeting military sites in northern Israel and Syria’s occupied Golan Heights to support Palestinians in Gaza, where an ongoing Israeli operation has killed over 40,900 people.
The Lebanese group has threatened to continue its military operations until the battle in Gaza is over. At the same time, Israeli officials have promised to remove Hezbollah from the country’s border, including an all-out war if needed.
