Baba Siddique, famed for throwing expensive parties, changed sides early this year after decades with the Indian National Congress.
An Indian politician with close ties to Bollywood stars was shot dead in Mumbai only weeks before a state election.
Baba Siddique, known for hosting lavish parties, was shot numerous times outside his son’s workplace in the country’s financial center on Saturday evening, according to authorities.
The 66-year-old was transported to Lilavati Hospital but was unable to be saved.
According to India’s Press Trust news agency, two accused attackers have been apprehended, while authorities are looking for another.
According to NDTV, two individuals claimed to be members of a crime organization that had previously committed many murders.
Mr Siddique had been involved with the Indian National Congress party for decades until joining the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in February of this year.

He served three consecutive terms in the legislative assembly of Maharashtra, commencing in 1999.
He also worked as a minister.
Elections in Maharashtra are scheduled for next month.
Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister, stated that the killing of his NCP colleague would be “thoroughly investigated” and “strict action” taken against the perpetrators.
According to Mr Pawar, five teams have been dispatched to several regions to probe Mr Siddique’s murder, The Times of India reported.
According to reports, a state funeral will be given for him.
