Andy Farrell keeps Ireland team unchanged for Scotland

  • Farrell keeps Ireland team same
  • Nash passes head injury test
  • Ireland aims to retain championship

Andy Farrell, the head coach of Ireland, has selected an unaltered squad to face Scotland in Dublin on Saturday in a season-deciding Six Nations match.

Farrell decides against a reorganisation even though Ireland’s prospects of securing consecutive Grand Slams were dashed by England’s defeat last week.

Ahead of schedule, wing Calvin Nash has completed a head injury assessment (HIA).

Garry Ringrose, who was named to the reserve, is positioned to debut this year.

Centre of Leinster: Ringrose was sidelined for the tournament’s first three games due to a shoulder injury. However, he did not make the England roster for the match as Farrell elected to name two backup backs.

Instead of Farrell reverting to a five-forwards, three-backs formation instead of Ringrose, scum-half Conor Murray and Harry Byrne are substitutes in the backline.

Byrne was a substitute during Ireland’s 36-0 victory in Dublin over Italy.

Instead of Ryan Baird, who was utilised as a second-row cover during the England match, is Iain Henderson, who entered the game off the bench.

Additionally omitted is Ciaran Frawley, who replaced Nash in the match against England but was dismissed due to a head injury.

Although Ireland’s attempt to become the first team to win consecutive Six Nations Grand Slams was thwarted by their loss at Twickenham last weekend, they can still retain the championship on Saturday by either avoiding defeat or amassing two losing bonus points at the Aviva Stadium.

Ireland has emerged victorious in its last nine encounters with Scotland, culminating in a 36-14 triumph in October during the World Cup.

Additionally, Farrell’s squad defeated the Scots 22-7 at Murrayfield en route to claiming the Grand Slam last year.

In queue are:

McCarthy, Beirne, O’Mahony (captain), Van der Flier, Doris; Keenan; Nash, Henshaw, Aki, Lowe; Crowley, Gibson-Park; Porter, Sheehan, Furlong; Van der Flier, Doris; McCarthy, Gibney, Sheehan, O’Mahony.

Ringrose, Healy, Bealham, Baird, Conan, Murray, H. Byrne, and Kelleher served as substitutes.

Kinghorn, Steyn, Jones, McDowall, Van Der Merwe, Russell, and White represent Scotland. The remaining members are Schoeman, Turner, Z Fagerson, Gilchrist, Cummings, Christie, Darge, and Dempsey.
