Police Scotland opened a murder investigation after the death of Marelle Sturrock, who was 29 weeks pregnant, and David Yates was sought in connection with her death.

David Yates, the man whose body was recovered by police investigating the death of a pregnant teacher, has been formally identified.

Thursday, police officers discovered Mugdock Reservoir.

Yates, 36, was sought after Marelle Sturrock, 35, was found dead on Glasgow’s Jura Street on Tuesday morning.

The murder inquiry into her death has found no further suspects. The expectant child of Ms. Sturrock, who was 29 weeks pregnant, did not survive.

A force spokesperson announced on Friday afternoon, “The body of a man recovered yesterday during searches of Mugdock Reservoir has been identified as 36-year-old David Yates.”

“His death is not being treated as suspicious.”

Tuesday, Yates’ white Seat Ateca was discovered nine miles distant in Mugdock Country Park, prompting a massive police search.

East Dunbartonshire Park’s reservoir was cordoned off by police divers.

A Police Scotland spokesperson added, “An investigation is ongoing, but there is no evidence implicating anyone else in her death.”

“Reports will be submitted in due time to the Procurator Fiscal.

Officers continue to offer specialized assistance to both families during this exceedingly trying time.

At 17, Ms. Sturrock left the Scottish Highlands for Glasgow to pursue a career in the arts.

She subsequently became a primary school teacher after completing her postgraduate education diploma.

Wednesday, a letter was sent to the parents and guardians of students at Sandwood Primary School in Glasgow, where Ms. Sturrock worked, informing them of her passing.

Later, principal Fiona Donnelly characterized Ms. Sturrock as a “loving, kind, diligent, and considerate individual who made time for everyone.”

She added, “We are a school community in mourning and are devastated by the tragic news of her death. Please accept our deepest condolences as we all come to terms with our loss.”
