- Nissan app ceases on older EVs
- Owners criticize unexpected withdrawal
- Impacts 3,000 pre-2016 vehicles
Nissan Leaf electric vehicle owners have accused the automaker of “dumping its pioneers” following the announcement that its app would no longer function on older models.
The company claims that the app, which enables remote control of functions like heating, is unavailable due to the deactivation of the United Kingdom’s 2G network.
However, consumers have expressed their discontent, stating that they had not anticipated its withdrawal.
As the market expands, experts anticipate that more electric vehicles will be impacted by the issue.
About 3,000 Nissan Leaf and e-NV200 vehicles manufactured before 2016 are impacted by the removal of the app.
The 2G control units installed in these older vehicles facilitate communication with the application.
Nissan announced that as of 1 April 2024, the NissanConnect EV app, which was previously integrated with Nissan Leaf and e-NV200 vehicles manufactured until 2016, will be deactivated in anticipation of the demise of 2G technology.
It further stated that owners will retain the ability to operate critical functions like the Climate Control Timer and Charging Timer through the navigation system of their vehicle.
Disappointment has been expressed by some impacted motorists, due in part to the fact that mobile network providers will not cease 2G operations until the end of the decade.

“I was astounded,” stated Max Siegieda, a Manchester-based 2013 Nissan Leaf proprietor.
“I would have anticipated a minimum of six to twelve months if not longer, to organize alternative options.” “A crucial component of the automobile that is being eliminated.”
He stated that the app’s remote access for cost-effective features such as heating and charging was “a major selling point” when he purchased the vehicle used in 2022.
Already contemplating an upgrade, he now states that he is “reluctant” to purchase another Nissan “due to the lack of notice” they provided regarding the closure of the app.
