Messi breaks MLS record with historic New England crowd

  • Messi scores two goals, setting MLS history with Miami
  • Record crowd witnesses Inter Miami’s victory over New England
  • Messi’s performance dominates sports news, drawing widespread excitement

Inter Miami won 4-1 on Saturday night, with two goals from Lionel Messi thrilling a record-setting New England Revolution crowd.

Messi’s ninth goal of the season, which gave his side a 2-1 lead in the 68th minute, was a left-footed strike from deep inside the box that did not disappoint the 65,612 spectators who were in attendance at Gillette Stadium.

Messi also contributed to some history. He became the first player in MLS history to contribute to 16 goals in the first seven games of a season, according to Miami’s X account.

“He has done it his entire existence. “We anticipate it from him,” said Messi’s shot-blocking comrade Benjamin Cremaschi, who assisted Messi in scoring the third goal. “He effortlessly makes it appear effortless.” Simply put, we are grateful to have him by our side. He seizes every opportunity that presents itself.

The attendance surpassed the previous record of 61,316 set in the 2002 MLS final when Revolution was defeated by LA Galaxy.

“After (our) goal in the first half, I thought we had them pretty much locked up,” said Caleb Porter, the coach of New England. “They were not being afforded many opportunities, nor were they being given much time or space to function.” Then Messi discovered a fissure, as he routinely does.

The 36-year-old’s goal elicited raucous applause from the spectators during an Eastern Conference match between bottom-placed Revolution and first-placed Miami.

Late goals were scored by Cremaschi and Luis Suárez for Miami, with Suarez’s goal being attributed to Messi for the assist.

In the first minute, Tomas Chancalay outpaced a defender and floated a shot past an onrushing custodian, Drake Callender, to give Revolution a 1-0 lead.

Even though both the Boston Celtics and Bruins were in the semifinals, Messi’s visit dominated the sports landscape this week.

Approximately 90 minutes before the match, hundreds of supporters, predominantly children, entered the stadium donning pink Miami Messi jerseys. They became conspicuously jumbled together when the stadium was packed. A few Messi No. 10 Argentina white-and-blue-striped jerseys were interspersed throughout.

Stacy Mills, a 31-year-old traveling nurse from East Tennessee who was donning a Messi Argentina jersey, exclaimed, “I am ecstatic.” “In fact, I have been a fan of his since he was a player for Barcelona.”

Caleadia Jessup, a 53-year-old travel nursing friend from Fayetteville, North Carolina, was similarly ecstatic to display her Messi Argentina jersey. She stated, “I followed him when he represented my country in the World Cup.
