Microsoft is investigating an outage that prevented thousands of users from accessing the website’s services, including Outlook and Teams.

Downdetector.com, which tracks outages, recorded thousands of users reporting problems with Teams, Outlook, Microsoft 365, and Xbox Live. The company did not disclose the number of affected users.

Manchester, London, Birmingham, Norwich, Oxford, Brighton, and Cardiff users reported technical difficulties.

Additionally, the site reported over 3,900 issues with Microsoft Teams in India and over 900 in Japan.

Additionally, reports of outages increased in Australia and the United Arab Emirates.

During the outage, the majority of users were unable to send messages, join calls, or use any other feature of the Teams application, forcing office workers to revert to in-person meetings and alternate modes of communication.

Microsoft’s official Twitter account: “We’re investigating multiple Microsoft 365 service disruptions. More information is available in the administrative center under the heading MO502273.

“We’ve identified a possible networking issue and are analyzing telemetry to determine the next steps in troubleshooting.”

Later, it added: “We’ve narrowed down the source of the issue to configuration issues with the network. And we’re analyzing the most effective mitigation strategy to address these issues without causing additional harm.

“We have reverted a network change that we believe is having an adverse effect. We are observing the service as the rollback is implemented.”

Azure, Microsoft’s cloud division, also tweeted about the outage, stating that a subset of users was experiencing platform issues.

Numerous Microsoft users shared updates on the outage via social media, with #MicrosoftTeams becoming a popular topic on Twitter.

“Microsoft Teams and Outlook are experiencing problems in Ethiopia… Are these services available?” One sent a tweet.

Another user stated, “Microsoft Outlook and Teams services are unavailable in Sri Lanka and around the world.”

Microsoft Teams is used by over 280 million people globally and is an integral component of daily operations for organizations and schools, who utilize the service to make calls, plan meetings, and manage workflow.

According to the company’s status page, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Exchange Online were all affected.

Microsoft, which employs more than 220,000 people worldwide, including 6,000 in the United Kingdom, announced last week plans to eliminate 10,000 jobs worldwide.

In a statement to employees, chief executive Satya Nadella explained that the layoffs, which affect less than 5 percent of the workforce, are the result of a decline in investment as fears mount that the United States and other important growth regions are headed for a recession.
