Instagram has introduced new parental controls in the United Kingdom, allowing parents to set a daily time limit and break intervals.
Parents and guardians of users under the age of 18 can now set a daily time limit, schedule breaks, and view who their children follow and who follows them.
The app’s developer, Meta, announced that parents and guardians of users under the age of 18 can now set a daily time limit ranging from 15 minutes to two hours before a black screen appears.
Parents will also be able to view the accounts their children have reported and the reason for doing so, as well as who follows them and who they follow, and their scheduled breaks.
Previously, only children could commence the supervision tools by sending an invitation to their child. Now, parents can initiate the tools by sending an invitation to their child.
Tuesday marked the entry into effect of the new tools.
Meta unveiled the new features in the United States in March and will begin rolling them out this month in Japan, Australia, Ireland, Canada, France, and Germany.
Before the end of the year, the digital behemoth, which also controls Facebook and WhatsApp, intends to launch the tools globally.
The features will also include ‘nudges’ to encourage youngsters to switch to a new topic after frequently searching for the same item, to inspire them to discover something new.
Meta is also commencing the global rollout of a parent dashboard for all Quest virtual reality headsets.
