After speeding on the M1 last year, government official Robert Jenrick was fined and banned for six months.
Robert Jenrick, immigration minister, was banned from driving for six months for speeding nearly 30 mph on a highway.
The Newark representative was also fined £1,639 after admitting to driving at 68 miles per hour in a transitory 40 mph zone on the M1 in Nottinghamshire on August 5, 2017.
The case was handled through a Single Justice Procedure at Northampton Magistrates Court, which allows a magistrate to adjudicate minor criminal cases in a closed court, without the presence of the public or press.
Mr. Jenrick did not have to appear in court because defendants can make guilty or not guilty pleas in writing.
Mr. Jenrick also responded to the sentence by stating, “I accept the court’s decision.
“I was driving below the national speed limit on a deserted interstate with no road construction in sight.”
Unbeknownst to me at the time, a variable speed limit had been implemented.
“I’d never intentionally exceed the speed limit.”
According to the Courts and Tribunals Service Centre, the offense occurred between exits 18 and 17 on the southbound motorway.
Previously, the newspaper stated that Mr. Jenrick was fined £307 and assessed three penalty points in March for speeding on the A40 in west London in August 2021.
The most recent offence resulted in a £1,107 penalty, £442 victim fee, and £90 costs.
