The government’s independent advisor on violence against women has stated that she will no longer work under Suella Braverman.

Regarding women’s rights and ethnic minorities, Nimco Ali stated on live radio that she was “on an entirely different planet” from the home secretary.

Ms. Ali was appointed when her friend, Prime Minister Boris Johnson, was in office.

According to a source close to the home secretary, Ms. Ali’s contract will expire before Christmas.

They further stated: “The secretary of the interior is committed to making our streets and homes safer for women and girls.

She will continue to prioritize this policy and the rights of women and girls to live safely in the United States.

The Home Office stated that they had not received a formal resignation letter and, as such, had no comment.

Ms. Ali stated on Times Radio that she would not “feel comfortable serving under Suella” while being interviewed.

She stated, “Suella and I live on completely different worlds when it comes to the rights of women and girls and how we discuss ethnic minorities.”

Ms. Ali stated that Ms. Braverman had distinct approaches to “those with a refugee history like myself”

In addition, she questioned whether the home secretary shared her “feminist beliefs.”

When asked whether she would continue as a consultant, she responded, “ultimately, no, I will not continue.”

The action was taken mere hours after the home secretary pledged to support a bill criminalizing street harassment.

While acting under previous home secretary Priti Patel, Ms. Ali played a significant role in laying the groundwork for the law and directing a consultation on making street harassment a distinct offense.

Ms. Patel appointed Ms. Ali to her position in October 2020.

No decision has been made about the appointment of a new Independent Adviser on Combating Violence Against Women and Girls.

Yvette Cooper, the shadow home secretary for Labour, described Ms. Ali’s decision as “damaging for Suella Braverman.”

Cooper stated: “Her peers do not believe she is qualified for the position.

“It demonstrates how feeble Rishi Sunak was by appointing her. More disorder at the center of the Conservative government.”

In her three months as home secretary, Ms. Braverman has not met Ms. Ali, according to an ally.
