This month, Ben Wallace also criticized Rishi Sunak and several of his followers for leaving Boris Johnson’s cabinet.

Ben Wallace, the Secretary of Defense, has declared his support for cabinet colleague Liz Truss in the Conservative leadership contest.

Mr. Wallace regarded Ms. Truss as “genuine, trustworthy, and experienced” with “integrity” for the top position.

Mr. Wallace stated, "At the beginning of this competition, I planned to take a back seat."

The defense minister, who was widely touted to become the next Conservative Party leader until ruling himself out of the race, said that Ms. Truss’s support for defense and security had also been “quite constant.”

Mr. Wallace stated, “At the beginning of this competition, I planned to take a back seat.”

“I’m the secretary of defense, and I’m looking for a candidate who will do right by the department and recognize that the challenges we confront every day are very serious and growing and that they must be adequately funded.

“We cannot simply pretend they will vanish on their own.

“In addition to observing their performances and hustings, I also know both candidates.

“I’ve been in the cabinet with both the chancellor and Liz Truss for two years. Therefore, it was essential for me to determine whom I believed to be the best candidate to lead us forward.

“So, you know, I know Liz. She is straightforward and genuine; what you see is what you get.

“In addition to her consistent support for defense and security, she reads the same intelligence reports. I do. So I believed it was the proper candidate to support.”

Mr. Wallace noted that with the foreign secretary, “what you see is what you get,” which he believes the public desires more than ever at this time.

He proceeded: “Additionally, and this is essential, she has extensive experience in government.

“She is the only candidate who has served as the Treasury’s chief secretary for over two years. This is the second place. It is cabinet-level. It is vitally crucial. She served as the country’s bookkeeper in the Treasury.

“She was previously the international commerce minister and negotiated trade agreements; she is now the foreign secretary.

“This is a vast experience that Rishi unfortunately lacks. Yes, he has served in the chancellery, but his experience is limited.”

He stated that, if chosen as the next prime minister, the foreign secretary will not violate fiscal rules regarding borrowing.

Mr. Wallace also criticized Ms. Truss’s rival for the leadership, Rishi Sunak, and several of his supporters for leaving Boris Johnson’s cabinet last month.

He stated that “triggering cabinet ministers to resign during a crisis” was not the best course of action, adding that there were other options, such as a vote of confidence through the 1922 committee of backbench Conservative MPs.

“What would have happened if the markets had crashed? What if the home secretary did that and a terrorist attack occurred? “he questioned.

Mr. Wallace also confessed that he wanted Mr. Johnson to remain as prime minister and head of the Conservative Party.

Mr. Sunak stated yesterday night that he would back the reinstatement of grammar schools, but Ms. Truss pledged to restore Northern Powerhouse Rail.

After four television debates with mainly undecided audiences, the leadership candidates were finally confronted by Tory party members who would choose the next British prime minister.

The two-hour hustings session in Leeds was the first of twelve that will take place around the country before the polls close on September 2nd.

The next leader of the Conservative Party and the prime minister is anticipated to be revealed on September 5, with Mr. Johnson remaining in office until then.
