Chrissy Teigen, a model and television personality, said she knew her new child’s surrogate mother was the “perfect match” the instant she and John Legend spoke to her, and she named the child in her honor.
Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have announced the surrogate birth of their fourth child, a male.
The presenter and model said her heart is “officially full” and thanked her surrogate, Alexandra, for the “incredible gift.
Wren Alexander Stephens was born on June 19 and named after the surrogate.
In an Instagram post, Teigen, 37, told her 42.2 million followers that she had “always wanted four children” and shared childhood memories of pretending to raise four dolls.
She then mentioned the “greatest pain” of losing her son Jack in 2020 mid-pregnancy.
At the time, her candor about stillbirth was commended for demystifying the experience, as she shared photographs of her and Legend grieving in the hospital after the birth and death of their child.
“After losing Jack,” she said in her announcement post.
“In 2021, we inquired with a surrogacy agency about the possibility of having two tandem surrogates. Each of whom would carry a healthy boy or girl.”
She stated that they “restarted the IVF process” so that she could “attempt to carry [a child] one last time.”
In January of this year, Teigen and Legend announced the birth of their third child, a daughter named Esti.
The couple also has a seven-year-old daughter, Luna, and a five-year-old son, Miles, who were both conceived through IVF.
Teigen referred to her surrogate Alexandra as “the most incredible, loving, and compassionate surrogate we could ever imagine” and stated that she and Legend knew she was the “perfect match” from the moment they first spoke with her.
She wrote, “We would like to express our gratitude for the generous gift you have given us, Alexandra.
“And we are overjoyed to announce to the world that he is here, with a name that will always be associated with you, Wren Alexander Stephens.”
She also paid homage to the child she lost in 2020 by writing, “Our hearts and home are officially filled. And to our Jack, we are aware that both of their angelic caresses come from you.”
Legend called Wren “our new love” in a post with photographs of his new family.
Sharon Stone, Ellen DeGeneres, and Joss Stone congratulated the six-person family.
