Sir David was knighted by the Queen for the first time in 1985, but he has now gained an even greater honor during an investiture event where several other notable figures were also honored.

In recognition of his documentaries on the natural world and his efforts to preserve it, Sir David has been granted a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George, a higher honor, by the Queen.

During an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle, the Prince of Wales, himself a committed environmentalist, bestowed the honor onto the 96-year-old national treasure.

During the Jubilee weekend, the popular presenter, who is the same age as the Queen, was highlighted in a portion of the Platinum Party at the Palace outside Buckingham Palace.

During this segment of the show, the Duke of Cambridge emphasized the efforts of “visionary environmentalists” by projecting footage of Sir David on Buckingham Palace.

Prince William also expressed his admiration for “my grandfather and my father,” the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Charles, who have fought for the preservation of the natural world.

Sir David has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, joining Pope Francis and the World Health Organization as finalists for this year’s award.

Gary Lightbody, the lead singer of the rock band Snow Patrol, was also scheduled to receive his OBE for services to music and charity in Northern Ireland today.

Olympic and Paralympic gold medalists, such as curling captain Eve Muirhead, swimmer Hannah Russell, boccia player David Smith, and cyclist Jaco van Gassen, will also be honored.
