An animated adaptation of the critically acclaimed first novel by the host of Pointless, which follows a group of retirement home friends who solve cold cases for amusement but become entangled in a real murder, is currently in production.
Richard Osman has disclosed information regarding three of the four principal characters that will be featured in the upcoming film adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club.
Ben Kingsley, Elizabeth Best, Pierce Brosnan, and Mirren will each play the part of Ibrahim Arif, Elizabeth Best, and Ron Ritchie, respectively.
The host of Pointless disclosed the identities of the principal cast members for The Rest Is Entertainment, a biweekly podcast he co-hosts with journalist Marina Hyde.
Christopher Columbus, the helmsman responsible for Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, and two Harry Potter films, is confirmed to provide the screenplay and direction for the Steven Spielberg-produced film Amblin Entertainment.
The film is an adaptation of Osman’s debut novel of the same name, which chronicles a group of retirement home friends who become entangled in an actual murder while solving cold cases for fun.
It takes place in Cooper’s Chase, a retirement community in the fictitious Kent village of Fairhaven.
According to Osman, the production will occur in the United Kingdom from “late June to September.”

Joyce Meadowcroft, a retired nurse who will serve as the fourth primary character, has not yet been confirmed.
Osman alluded to the casting by stating, “Joyce, negotiations are still ongoing; however, the name is the one that people yell at me the most in the street.”
He hinted that there would be ample auditions in the coming weeks.
The novel adaptation was officially endorsed in 2020 subsequent to Amblin Partners winning the rights through a competitive auction.
Following the release of his adult crime debut, which achieved the highest sales figures, Osman has authored three additional books in the series, with the fifth installment scheduled for release next year.
