Takeoff, along with his cousin Offset and his uncle Quavo, was a member of Migos. The 28-year-old was shot outside a Houston bowling alley and died on the spot. Offset has now revealed his comments about his bandmate for the first time since his passing, following a tribute by Quavo.
Offset has stated that the loss of his cousin and Migos bandmate Takeoff has “shattered” his heart.
First to pay tribute publicly since Takeoff, whose true name was Kirsnick Khari Ball, was fatally shot at a bowling alley in Houston, Texas, Offset described his existence as “a nightmare” and the pain as “unbearable.”
Takeoff, age 28, was a member of the rap group Migos alongside Offset, whose actual name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, and his uncle Quavo, whose full name is Quavious Keyate Marshall. The group rose to notoriety with 2013 hit Versace, which was made even more popular by a remix by Drake.
The police have not yet made any arrests in the shooting on 1 November.
Two weeks later, Offset sent a statement to his 20 million Instagram followers: “Dear Take, the agony you have caused me is unimaginable.
“My heart is broken and I have so much to say, but I am at a loss for words.
“I’ve been going to sleep and waking up thinking that this is all a nightmare, but it’s reality, and it feels like a nightmare.
“I wish I could give you one final hug. Laugh a final time. Smoke one last time. “Give one last performance.”
Offset, who is married to Cardi B, continued, “someone with a soul like yours is now in heaven.”
The 30-year-old continued, “I hope you are aware of how much we love and miss you.
“You have left an unfillable void in my heart. Give me strength, give your brothers strength, give your family strength.
Even though I am aware that you will always be with us, please send me a small sign or a beautiful dream. I adore you forever, 4L and after.”
Takeoff was the youngest member of Migos.
Offset’s message follows a lengthy homage by Quavo, 31, who hailed his nephew as “our angel” and posted it over the weekend.
Quality Control Music, the group’s record company, stated that the rapper was killed by a “stray bullet” and condemned “senseless violence.”
After his death, hundreds of admirers gathered in Atlanta, close to where he grew up, to honor the rapper.
Rap artists Dave, Kid Cudi, Khalid, and Ja Rule are among the celebrities who have paid their respects.
