Sam Taylor-Johnson, director of Fifty Shades of Grey, is directing the biography titled Back To Black. The film is released more than a decade after the death of Winehouse, a generation-defining talent.
A photo of actress Marisa Abela portraying Amy Winehouse in a forthcoming biopic on the singer has been revealed.
Next week, Abela will begin filming the Back To Black biography, which is named after the artist’s iconic album and song.
In the first photograph provided by Studio Canal UK, Abela can be seen sporting the late singer’s signature black beehive hairstyle, makeup, and gold earrings.
Studio Canal is happy to reveal this first look at rising sensation Marisa Abela as Amy, as filming begins next week.
Last year, it was reported that Sam Taylor-Johnson, director of Fifty Shades of Grey, would helm the biopic. Which the production firm described as focusing on “the life and music of the famous artist.”
Amy Winehouse releases first photo
When Abela was appointed to the role on Friday. She posted a photo of herself in front of a Winehouse mural with the caption. “I love you, Amy” on Instagram.
In addition to mentioning Winehouse’s statement from the 2008 Grammy Awards, Abela wrote: “Also, London. This belongs to London. Because Camden Town is not on fire.”
Winehouse won record of the year, song of the year, and best female pop vocal performance for Rehab at the 2008 Grammys, as well as a best new artist and best pop vocal album for Back To Black.
On July 23, 2011, Winehouse, a generation-defining talent, died of alcohol poisoning at her home in Camden, north London. She was 27 years old.
She was renowned for her deep vocals and songs such as Love Is A Losing Game and Tears Dry On Their Own as well as her interpretation of Valerie with Mark Ronson.
