The actor Jamie Foxx has issued an apology for an Instagram post that was deemed antisemitic.
“They killed this guy named Jesus… what do you think they’ll do to you???!” #fakefriends and #fakelove.”
According to some social media users, Foxx’s post echoed the antisemitic belief that Jews were collectively responsible for the murder of Jesus Christ.
In 1965, the Roman Catholic Church formally rejected the notion.
Foxx responded to the criticism in a new Instagram post on Saturday, stating, “I would like to repent to the Jewish community and anyone who was offended by my post.
“I now realize that my choice of words has offended, and I apologize. Never was that my intention.
“To clarify, I was betrayed by a fake friend, and that’s all I meant by ‘they’,” the Ray actor explained in an Instagram post.
Jennifer Aniston was also criticized after she appeared to “like” Foxx’s initial post before its deletion. The Friends actor then issued a statement on Instagram declaring her opposition to prejudice in any form.
