- Danny Masterson Plans to Appeal His Two Rape Convictions
- Background on Masterson’s Rape Convictions and Legal Proceedings
Masterson intends to appeal his two rape convictions handed down earlier this month in Los Angeles.
Bijou Phillips, an American actress and model, has filed for divorce from erstwhile That 70s Show star Danny Masterson after he was convicted of rape.
Monday, Ms. Phillips, 43, petitioned the Santa Barbara Superior Court for a divorce to terminate her nearly 12-year marriage to Mr. Masterson, 47.
Masterson and Ms. Phillips have a nine-year-old daughter.
Masterson intends to appeal his two rape convictions, which were handed down by a Los Angeles court on September 7th.
Due to the 2003 offences, he was sentenced to thirty years in prison.
According to the two women whose testimony led to Masterson’s conviction, the actor was at the height of his fame when he gave them beverages that caused them to feel woozy or faint.
They claimed that he then assaulted them violently.
Masterson’s legal counsel intends to file an appeal based on evidentiary and constitutional issues in his case.
Prosecutors retried Masterson this year after a jury deadlocked on all three rape charges in December 2022.
After seven days, a seven-woman, five-man jury found him guilty on two charges on May 31.
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher were criticised in the days following Masterson’s sentencing when it was revealed they had asked the judge for leniency in the case.
