The Met Office has issued new weather warnings for snow and ice for northern and southern Scotland and the east coast from north England to below London. They will be in effect on Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.
According to new weather warnings issued by the Met Office, some of the United Kingdom are at risk of snow and ice today and throughout the weekend.
The Met Office has issued new yellow weather warnings in anticipation of snow and ice in some areas of southern Scotland and northern Scotland.
Advisory Levels Along the Eastern Coast
The advisory levels are also applicable along the eastern coast of England, extending from Newcastle-upon-Tyne to below London. They will remain in force from 5:00 pm tonight until 10:00 am on Saturday.
According to the forecaster, the precipitation will result in icy regions and snow cover.
Icy-covered surfaces may present hazardous conditions for motorists, and cause falls and slides, which could result in injuries. Additionally, public transport services are likely to encounter delays.
Since 11 am this morning, when three previous amber weather warnings were in effect, additional alerts have been issued.
New alerts are issued after days of disruption.
Local Impacts and Collisions
On Thursday, the impact of the frigid weather was evident as dozens of schools in Cornwall were forced to close, either partially or entirely.
Due to the snow, several collisions were also reported on the roads of County Durham in the opposite direction of England.
This morning, a pervasive frost was predicted, with overnight lows of -6 degrees Celsius in southwest England, -8 degrees Celsius in Wales, and -10 degrees Celsius in Scotland.
This will persist throughout this evening and into Saturday.
Kirsty McCabe stated, “At this time, rain, precipitation, and snow are expected to move in from the west during the evening of Saturday.
“As this awkward mixture spreads eastward through portions of England and Wales,”
“Overnight, snowfall could diminish to dangerously low levels over the Welsh hills, where temperatures drop significantly below freezing.”
In addition to snow, freezing rain can cause black ice on roads.
This weekend will also bring about frigid fog, which is expected to persist and contribute to the chilly atmosphere.
Future health and transportation hazards
Until December 5th, the Health Security Agency of the United Kingdom has issued amber cold health alerts in the East Midlands, West Midlands, North West, North East, Yorkshire and the Humber.
It is concerned that a “significant” impact could ensue throughout the health and social care industry.
The United Kingdom will likely continue to experience a northeasterly airflow for several days, according to the Met Office. This means it will remain frigid well into the following week.
National Highways advises motorists to organize their trips, monitor the weather forecast, and exercise heightened caution while driving.
The superintendent of its national network, Dale Hipkiss, stated, “Freezing conditions give rise to numerous dangers, including snow and ice.”
“By all means, ensure that you have a comprehensive understanding of your journey beforehand and budget additional time for travel.”
