- EV repair claims surge 371%.
- Average claim cost increases.
- Toyota provides electrified Olympic fleet.
In the past three years, repair claims from electric vehicle owners have surged by 371%, as per data from specialized warranty firm MotorEasy.
MotorEasy, in its statement, suggests that this growth results from an increase in the number of EVs covered by their warranties, and it reflects an aging EV fleet where issues are emerging.
The average claim for MG’s electric range, such as MG4 EV, jumped from £430 in 2021 to £2,200.
A similar trend is seen with Tesla, with claims costs up 231% since 2021.

Duncan McClure Fisher, CEO of MotorEasy’s parent company, Intelligent Motoring, notes that while EVs have fewer moving parts, they still experience failure rates comparable to petrol and diesel vehicles.
Toyota will supply nearly 3,000 electrified vehicles for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. Including battery-electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid models, with the goal of reducing the event’s carbon footprint by 50%.
After the games, the Mirai fuel-cell vehicles will join the hydrogen transport fleet in Paris, totaling 1,500 fuel-cell electric vehicles.
