The United Kingdom and New Zealand will permit more young people to live and work in both countries for longer periods.

Boris Johnson of the United Kingdom and Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand agreed to extend the Youth Mobility and Working Holiday programs.

The applicant age limit will increase from 30 to 35, and the maximum length of stay in the host country will now be three years.

A similar agreement permits young people to work and travel in Australia.

Home Secretary Priti Patel stated that the change “will allow even more young Britons and New Zealanders to develop their skills, forge lifelong connections, and contribute to their host country.”

New Zealand has long advocated for improvements to working holiday visas, according to Ms. Ardern, who is in London for talks with Mr. Johnson.

Before entering politics, the leader of the New Zealand Labour Party resided in London, where she worked as a senior policy adviser for Whitehall.

She added, “I was one of many New Zealanders who enjoyed living and working in the United Kingdom, and we look forward to offering the same wonderful experience to Brits in New Zealand.”

On Thursday, following the conclusion of the NATO summit in Madrid, the prime ministers met at Downing Street.

Ms. Ardern stated that the pair would discuss the free trade agreement signed last year and the response to the conflict in Ukraine.

Mr. Johnson praised New Zealand’s “very strong stance,” and Ms. Ardern stated, “We have also provided military aid through our partnership with you.

Next year, the Home Office will announce additional details about the Youth Mobility and Working Holiday scheme.
