Less than two months after announcing his comeback to the role, Henry Cavill has been replaced as Superman by the new leadership of DC Studios.

“I just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran, and I’m sorry to inform you all of the bad news. “I will not be back as Superman,” stated Cavill.

After the studio instructed me to announce my return in October, before their hiring, this news is not ideal, but such is life.

He stated that no hard sentiments existed.

“The changing of the guard is a recurring occurrence. In his Instagram post, he continued, “I respect that.”

Henry Cavill won't reprise Superman.

“James and Peter must construct a universe. I wish them and everyone engaged with the new universe the best of luck and prosperity.”

Gunn and Safran assumed control of DC Studios in late October, shortly after Cavill’s surprise debut as Superman during the end credits of the Dwayne Johnson flick Black Adam.

The British actor then tweeted a video announcing to followers, “I’m back as Superman!” He noted that the Black Adam cameo was “only a little taste of things to come.”

James Bond suppositions

Cavill portrayed the renowned character in Man Of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman (2016) alongside Ben Affleck, and Justice League the following year.

As a result of the news, several fans have speculated that the actor is now eligible to play James Bond, should the casting director call.

In late October, Cavill, 39, also confirmed his departure from the Netflix series The Witcher. His position will be filled by Liam Hemsworth.

Superman

Wednesday, Gunn tweeted, “Peter and I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn’t be happier about; we’ll be able to share exciting details about our first projects at the start of the new year.

“Among the candidates is Superman. In the beginning, our story will focus on an earlier period in Superman’s life, thus Henry Cavill will not portray the character.

He continued, “However, we recently had a fantastic meeting with Henry, of whom we are huge admirers, and we discussed several potential future collaboration opportunities.”
