Iran claims to have executed a prisoner seized amid current anti-government demonstrations – the first known execution connected to the upheaval.

People are said to have gathered overnight in Tehran’s Azadi Square, where the execution took place on Thursday.

The prisoner has been named Mohsen Shekari by the country’s judiciary-run news service, Mizan.
