The Prison Service is attempting to have any potentially connected social media accounts removed. David Norris ceased operations following allegations that he used WhatsApp and viewed YouTube.

One of the murderers of Stephen Lawrence has been remanded in solitary confinement after he allegedly obtained a mobile phone and sent selfies to his friends outside.

The Ministry of Justice has stated that it is examining the alleged security breach involving David Norris, one of the two men sentenced to life imprisonment in 2012 for the racist murder of the black teenager.

In May, then-justice secretary Dominic Raab opposed a plan to transfer Norris to an open prison out of concern that he still represented a threat to the public.

In addition, the Daily Mail revealed on Tuesday that Norris had been sending images of himself from his prison cell to his buddies on the outside, as well as using his smartphone to call, text, access Facebook, and watch YouTube videos.

The newspaper reported that Norris updated his WhatsApp status to announce his impending release from prison, stating that he would be “coming home in two to liven you all up.”

In addition, the report stated he had been spotted wearing fancy clothing and playing an Xbox inside.

The Ministry of Justice has issued a warning to inmates discovered carrying cell phones that their sentences will be increased.

When Norris completes his minimum prison term of 14 years and three months, he will have the opportunity to petition the parole board for his release, according to the current guidelines.

A representative for the Prison Service stated, “We do not accept illegal phones in jail, and inmates detected with them should expect to spend more time behind bars.”

We have invested £125 million in enhanced prison security, including X-ray body scanners that have thwarted almost 20,000 attempts to sneak contraband behind bars over the previous two years.

Segregation

Norris has been placed in segregation pending the results of an investigation, which could result in additional punishment.

It is believed that the Prison Service is conducting cell searches and seeking to remove any social media accounts that may be associated with Norris.

Mr. Lawrence, 18, was stabbed to death in Eltham, south-east London, on April 22, 1993. Five men were arrested in connection with his racist murder.

But only Norris and Gary Dobson, two of his murderers, were brought to punishment. In 2012, both were granted life sentences on murder convictions.
