Newcastle United “praying for” missing Christian Atsu after Turkey earthquake.

As a result of the massive earthquake, it is thought that the Ghanaian international is buried under the wreckage.

Christian Atsu, a former player for Newcastle United, is said to be among those trapped under rubble in Turkey following this morning’s earthquake, according to sources.

Local media reported that several players for the Turkish team Hatayspor were missing or buried following the earthquake, including Atsu.

Atsu, a 31-year-old Ghanaian international, played for Newcastle between 2016 and 2021.

Over 3,000 people died in an earthquake that devastated Turkey and northern Syria.

Atsu was a member of the Newcastle squad that earned a promotion to the Premier League in 2017. After signing on loan from Chelsea for the season and then completing a permanent transfer.

Atsu, who scored late in stoppage time on Saturday to secure a 1-0 victory against Kasimpasa, will leave St. James’ Park in the summer of 2021, having made 121 appearances for the club.
