Early on Saturday morning, individuals at the Gare de Lyon were attacked by a man armed with a hammer and knife, who a security officer subsequently subdued.

Three people have been wounded at a Parisian train station.

At the Gare de Lyon, a significant transport hub, police arrested a suspect following the assault.

One person sustained severe injuries in the incident, which occurred at approximately 7:35 a.m. local time (6:35 a.m. in the United Kingdom). They are currently undergoing surgery.

The director of police in Paris, Laurent Nunez, has stated that the attack does not appear to be related to terrorism and that the assailant seems to be experiencing mental health issues.

He mentioned that the suspect’s possession of Italian residency documents and medications indicated that he was receiving medical treatment.

The Paris prosecutor’s office reports that he was brought to the ground by a security officer while allegedly armed with a hammer and a knife.

As the police investigate the alleged weapons, they have determined that a preliminary charge of attempted homicide is possible.

Attack Disrupts Paris Train Service

BFMTV, a 24-hour French news channel, said that the attacker is 32 and from Mali.

The French Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin, expressed his gratitude to those who apprehended the assailant in a social media post. He described the attack as an “unbearable act.”

SNCF also alerted X of “an act of malicious intent” against its customers.

It was stated that police and emergency services intervention rendered halls one and three of the station “temporarily inaccessible.” This caused problems between Paris Gare de Lyon and Montargis and Montereau.

Paris has increased its security in preparation for the Olympic Games, which it will host at the end of July.

Millions of spectators and approximately 10,500 Olympians are expected to attend, with the opening ceremony commencing on July 26.
