A truck-bus crash in South Africa killed 20 diamond mine workers.

Sunday’s collision occurred in the northern Limpopo province, near the Zimbabwean border.

Murray & Roberts Cementation reported that 17 of its employees were among those slain, while four others were injured.

At the time of the accident, the employees were en route to the Venetia mine in Musina, according to the company, which is assisting the victims’ families.

According to reports, they were going to work on an underground operation at a De Beers mine.

Florence Radzilani, the provincial transport minister, criticised certain automobiles on the road at the accident site on Monday.

She told SABC, “We always speak to our law enforcement officers and convey messages to these drivers that they must ensure their vehicles are roadworthy so as not to endanger the lives of innocent people.

“We are awaiting the results of the investigation, but there are already allegations that the truck driver lacked a license and that the vehicle was not roadworthy.”

The Venetia mine is the greatest diamond producer in South Africa.
