A prosecutor’s office official stated that the searches are founded on information provided by an anti-corruption agency.
Police are searching for the Paris 2024 Olympic organizers’ headquarters as part of a corruption investigation.
The Paris organising committee stated in a statement that a search is currently taking place at its offices in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis, and that “Paris 2024 is cooperating with the investigators to facilitate their investigations.”
It would offer no further comment.
An official with the office of the financial prosecutor stated that the inquiries are related to two investigations that had not been made public previously and are based on information provided by an anti-corruption agency.
The prosecutor’s office stated that one of the investigations was launched in 2017 into allegations of embezzlement of public funds and favoritism, as well as concerns regarding an unspecified contract signed by Paris organizers.
The other was established in 2022 after a review by the French Anti-Corruption Agency.
According to the prosecutor’s office, this case focuses on alleged conflicts of interest and favoritism involving multiple contracts between the organizing committee and Solideo, the corporation responsible for Olympic facilities.
The Olympic Games are scheduled to take place between 26 July and 11 August 2024, while the Paralympic Games will be conducted between 28 August and 6 September 2024.
