The bodies were discovered amid a collection of abandoned belongings purchased by a family at an auction for a storage facility.

The mother of two children whose remains were discovered years after their deaths concealed in luggage has been deported to New Zealand and charged with their murders.

The 42-year-old lady appeared in court on Wednesday after returning from South Korea.

The bodies of her children were discovered by a family in Auckland who purchased the bags through an online auction of abandoned belongings from a storage unit in August.

The judge at Manukau District Court issued a temporary order keeping many elements of the case, including the woman’s and the victims’ identities, hidden.

At the hearing, she was not compelled to enter a plea.

According to detectives, the children died between the ages of five and ten, and their bodies had been in storage for at least three or four years.

Officers emphasized that the family that discovered the dead had no connection to the deaths.

The mother, according to South Korean authorities, was born in South Korea and later immigrated to New Zealand, where she obtained citizenship.

According to immigration documents, she returned to South Korea in 2018.

“With the extradition, we hope that the reality of the case, which has received worldwide attention, will be revealed,” the justice ministry of South Korea stated.
